Congratulations, Christian, for receiving the Ralph Bunche Scholars Award for two years in a row and for being selected as part of the Merle Kling Undergraduate Honors Fellowship's Class of 2020
For his Kling project, Baker, a Religious Studies major, will investigate the decades-long history of the intersections of race, religion and rap music. By combining the social theories of Clifford Geertz and Max Weber with the music of Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Drake and others, Christian seeks to help us understand the complex relationship between Black music and the varying forms of Black religion.
