Michael Schaefer

Michael became the History and Religious Studies subject librarian in 2018. Prior to that, he held a paraprofessional position with WU Libraries since July 2015 in the Interlibrary Loan & Reserves department where he was essential in bringing the campus box delivery program into fruition, accelerating document delivery, and augmenting borrowing and lending services. He also worked as a Humanities Digital Workshop summer fellow in 2017 and worked with Prof. Kastor on his project, “Creating a Federal Government.” Before coming to Washington University, Michael worked for St. Louis Public Library for fifteen years and as an adjunct history professor at multiple St. Louis-metro area community colleges for five years. Michael holds bachelor's degrees in history and philosophy and master's degrees in history (Southern Illinois University - Carbondale) and library and information science (University of Missouri-Columbia).

As subject librarian, Michael serves as liaison to the History department, Religious Studies program, and the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics; selects library materials; participates in user education activities, and provides subject-specific research services.
